Planning Board Approves Cafritz Detailed Site Plan, 3-0

After several hours of testimony, which spanned two hearings, the plan was approved unanimously.

In a unanimous vote—just before midnight Friday—the Prince George's County Planning Board approved the Detailed Site Plan for the Cafritz development in Riverdale Park with conditions.

"It took a lot. It took the input of everyone to get to where were were today," said Planning Board Chair Elizabeth Hewlett after the motion passed, thanking the planning board staff and community members for their participation.

This vote puts developers one step closer to breaking ground on the proposed mixed-use development in Riverdale Park. The DSP includes 126 townhomes, 855 multi-family units and just over 187,000 square feet of commercial space. The commercial space is slated to include the first Whole Foods grocery store in Prince George's County.

Following this most recent approval, there will be a 30-day period in which the planning board's decision can be appealed. If no appeals are brought before the planning board, the DSP will go to the Prince George's County District Council—which is also the Prince George's County Council—for another public hearing and vote.

The district council could vote to either approve the DSP or remand it back to the planning board.

The planning board also approved a draft resolution Thursday for the preliminary plan of Cafritz development. The preliminary plan was unanimously approved by the council on May 16.
