New Liquor Store and Bistro Opens in Beltsville

Old Line Fine Wine, Spirits, and Bistro on Route 1 is home to 1,000 brands of beer and 3,000 brands of wine.

Larry Pendleton wanted to bring something to the greater Beltsville area that the region hasn’t seen before. After two years of planning, preparing and primping, his business is now finally open. Old Line Fine Wine, Spirits and Bistro opened its doors Oct. 1, but Saturday Nov. 10 was Pendleton’s grand opening. His liquor store is home to more than 10,000-square feet of wine, beer, a gift shop and even a restaurant. At 11011 Baltimore Ave. next to Costco in the building that used to be Circuit City, Old Line is a store like no other in the area with 1,000 different brands of beer and 3,000 different brands of wine. Poll: Maryland Doesn't Drink Beer? What?

Maryland ranks 47th in beer consumption in the U.S.

"I am a firm believer in the people. If given the truth, they can be depended upon to meet any national crisis. The great point is to bring them the real facts, and beer," Abraham Lincoln said. Apparently, people in the tri-state area do not track with the 17th president of the United States, and select other beverages to meet national crises. Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia all rank in the bottom third of annual shipment and consumption of beer, according to a study from the Beer Institute, quoted by the Washington Business Journal.
