Week in Review: Honoring Veterans, Helping the Homeless, and Continuing Concerns Over Cafritz

A round-up of this week's headlines.

The Calvert House Inn will be donating a portion of their lunch time income November 13-20 to Help by Phone Limited. Help by Phone Limited is an organization offering support to the newly homeless in Prince George's County. Stop in for a bite! Riverdale Park's town council held their regular legislative meeting this week and voted on some new traffic calming measures in Ward 6, passed a resolution to purchased the property known as Jey's Auto, and approved a letter from the mayor to the Cafritz developers. The council remains concerned about the developer's plans for a large surface parking lot in front of the Whole Foods. Week in Review: SHA Proposes Widening Route 1, Riverdale Park History Gets Published, Local Students Learn Using iPads in Class

A look at this week's headlines.

SHA Proposes Improvements for Route 1 in Riverdale Park The Maryland State Highway Association presented a proposal at the Riverdale Park Town worksession to add an additional left-turn lane on northbound Route 1 between Queensbury and MD 410, and to bring the sidewalk in to ADA compliance. Riverdale Park's History Hits Bookstores The Historical Association of Riverdale Park published the town's most complete history.  The book went on sale this week. Local Students Learn Using iPads Students from Wirt Middle School demonstrated for parents how they are taking classroom learning into the the future with Apple iPads, which the school received as part of program funding technology in Title 1 schools.  The Dental Group Dresses Up to Clean Up …

A Week in Review: Contamination, Community Programs and a Night Out

A look at notable events for the week of Aug. 1 to Aug. 7

As a part of our inaugural week, Riverdale Park-University Park Patch had the unfortunate job of looking into a quadruple murder in the 6800 block of Third Street in East Riverdale. All of the details of the murders are still unknown, but the fact that four lives were lost - especially the two children under the age of 6 - is sad. Although the murder wasn't in Riverdale Park, it's an incident that affects our community. This week, we also got the chance to take a close look at several community programs. There was the youth basketball camp, where Prince George's County native Troy Hailey is giving back to the community he grew up in with a basketball program for kids.
