Morris, an almost 26-year-veteran of the Prince George's County Police Department, said he's excited to join what he calls a well-respected agency.
Twenty six years ago, David Morris joined the Prince George's County Police Department, and since then he's said he's never looked back. "I've never regretted a day in my career," Morris said, who is currently a Major for the PGPD. A major with the Prince George's County Police Department will be taking the lead role with the Riverdale Park Police Department.
The nearly seven month search for a new police chief has ended. Riverdale Park Mayor Vernon Archer announced that Prince George's County Police Maj. David Morris is the nominee for chief of police for Riverdale Park's police department. Morris has 25 years of experience with the county's police department, some of that time as commander for District 5, according to Archer. He will be filling the vacancy left by former Chief Teresa Chambers who returned to her post with U.S. Park Police earlier this year. The council will vote on the nomination on Sept. 6 and Archer asked that residents come out and meet Morris in person then.

Candidates for the head job at the police department are currently being interviewed.
It's been five months since former Riverdale Park Police Chief Teresa Chambers was reinstated to her post at the U.S. Park Police, and Mayor Vernon Archer said he is currently interviewing candidates to fill the vacancy. Capt. Patrick Timmons has been acting chief since Chambers left, but Riverdale Park is hoping to hire someone officially for the position by August.
