Ofc. Tom Brannan join the Riverdale Park Police Department in early April.
Riverdale’s finest welcomed a new officer into the fold earlier this month. Ofc. Tom Brannan, most recently of the Pikesville Police Department, was sworn in as an officer of the Riverdale Park Police Department in early April. Brannan has been working in law enforcement for 20 years, with the last ten spent in his current career phase. Prior to his short stint with the Pikesville police, Brannan was with the Wicomico County Sheriff's Office. Working in Riverdale Park appealed to Brannan because he said the department seems well organize, and there’s a lot going on in the town. “I like to be a little busy and I like criminal investigation, and they allow their offices to carry a case further,” Brannan said. Police say the victim was groped by a man while walking her dog in the area of Natoli Place and Rittenhouse Street.
A local woman was sexually assaulted Friday morning in the area of Natoli Place and Rittenhouse Street in Riverdale Park, according to police. The woman was walking her dog shortly before 8 a.m. when she was groped by an unknown man, Capt. Patrick Timmons said. After assaulting the woman, the suspect fled on foot. The assault occurred Friday morning, but the victim did not report the incident to police until Friday night. And investigator with Riverdale Park police is working on the case now, Timmons said, though police have not identified any suspects at this time. The motorists were arrested and charged after failing field sobriety tests.
Saturday's sobriety checkpoint in Riverdale Park resulted in 673 checks and three individuals arrested and charged with Driving While Impaired (DWI), according to a statement released by Riverdale Park police. The checkpoint—part of a multi-jurisdictional effort to deter driving while impaired and alcohol related car accidents—was held from 9 p.m to 1 a.m. on Saturday in the 5500 block of Kenilworth Avenue. Of the 673 vehicles that were checked, eight drivers were asked to perform field sobriety tests, said police. Three individuals failed the tests and were arrested and subsequently charged with DWI.

If you need an extra incentive not to drink and drive on Saturday night, Riverdale Park police will be manning a sobriety checkpoint somewhere within city limits. The checkpoint is part of a multi-jurisdictional effort taking place throughout Prince George’s County to place a focus on sober driving, according to Riverdale Park police Lt. Andrew Powell.
