Residents can learn more about the Purple Line project and discuss station issues.
Residents curious about the Purple Line will have a chance to give input about the proposed light rail line on Tuesday night, when the M-NCPPC hopes to gain more feedback about the Beacon Heights station. The county's planners will give an overview of what the station would look like followed by detailed discussions of station issues such as community access and the surrounding area. They are looking for input from residents and business owners for the Transit-Oriented Development study. The proposed Purple Line is a double-track light rail with 21 stations stretching across 16.3 miles between Bethesda and New Carrollton. Last week, special guests got the chance to see the salon after an 18-month restoration.
A group of invitation-only guests and some local officials got the opportunity to see the newly-restored salon at Riversdale House Museum last week. The 80 guests, including Jan Matthysen, the ambassador from Belgium to the United States, and Wallace Loh, president of the University of Maryland, were among the first to see The Grand Salon in all its glory. “The restored Grand Salon now ranks among the most beautiful examples of neo-classical design in the mid-Atlantic area”, said Patrick Gossett, President of the Riversdale Historical Society. Maryland National Capital Park and Planning Commission will host a public hearing Monday night before the Nov. 7 town council meeting in Riverdale Park.
Riverdale tennis players may have to find a new location to play, if they played on the courts at Fletcher's Field. Maryland National Capital Park and Planning Commission may be converting the tennis court into a futsal court. Eileen Nivera, of M-NCPPC, said in an e-mail to Patch, "the current proposal would remove the tennis nets and poles and configure the existing paving to contain two small-sided soccer areas that would be separated by a fence." Nivera said players could bring their own traffic cones to define goal areas, which would allow for flexibility in configuring the courts. Highlights from the Dec. 6 legislative meeting.
Riverdale Park's Mayor and Council met Monday evening to discuss and vote on items previously raised during its Nov. 29 work session. Several upcoming community events were announced and Police Chief Chambers shared her good news.
