Panthers Close Season With Victory

Parkdale beat Bladensburg on Saturday to finish the season 5-5.

The Parkdale Panthers finished the season 5-5 with a 40-20 victory over Bladensburg on Saturday.  The teams put up six points apiece in the first and fourth quarters, but Parkdale's dominance in the second and third periods put the game away for the Panthers. Four different Parkdale players contributed touchdowns on the day. Adrien Straughn caught two scoring passes. Running back Reggie Uwandi ran for one, and caught a 50-yard pass for his second. Receiver Kenny Miles caught a 33-yard bullet for a touchdown. Lastly, quarterback Bejoe Mundit ran one in from the one-yard line. Mundit also had an incredible day throwing the ball. He passed for 422 yards, completing 20 of his 32 passing attempts. Four of his completions resulted in touchdowns…

Parkdale Gives Suitland Worthy Competition, Loses 26-18.

The Panthers showed up to play on Saturday, but lost to Suitland, the best team in Prince George's County.

Three weeks ago, the Parkdale Panthers held a 4-2 record. Unfortunately for the Green-and-Gold, they had yet to play the untouchable trinity of the Prince George's 4A conference—Flowers, Roosevelt and Suitland. Over the following three Saturdays however, they played those powerhouses in that order. After beating Laurel in their sixth game of the year, Parkdale coach Rich Holzer told his players they would need to win at least one those upcoming three games to maintain playoff hopes. It didn't happen in their first try as Flowers ran by the Panthers by a final score of 38-0. Last week, in attempt number two, Roosevelt hammered Parkdale, 42-8. So, it came down to Suitland on Saturday. Suitland, who entered the game with an 8-0 record, had …

Northwestern Suffers From Poor Practice Week, Loses to DuVal

The Wildcats lost to DuVal by a final score of 34-7 on Saturday.

It came down to preparation on Saturday. According to Northwestern head football coach Bryan Pierre, it was as simple as that. The Wildcats (2-6), who were downed by the DuVal Tigers (3-5) by a final score of 34-7, didn't put in the necessary work this week to defeat even a team with an identical record coming into the game, Pierre said. "We talked about them being 2-5 and us being 2-5. Both of us were still in the hunt to try and be .500 on the season," Pierre said. "DuVal practiced. …They knew what we were going to do. They got prepared for us. We didn't get prepared for them, and we deserved to lose today." Northwestern actually struck first in the game, scoring on their opening drive on a 4-yard run by sophomore running back Gerald …

Parkdale Finds Running Game, Improves to 4-2

The Panthers beat Laurel 32-12 on Saturday afternoon.

First quarter aside, the Parkdale Panthers finally found their stride on Saturday against the visiting Laurel Spartans. Throughout the season's first five games, the Panthers have been the picture of inconsistency, winning big one week and losing to lesser opponents the next. Heralded by Coach Rich Holzer during the preseason as a squad ready to surprise the league with its aerial attack, Parkdale could not even rely on its receivers last week in a loss to Oxon Hill. Saturday's match-up with Laurel, a 32-12 victory, was a completely different story. Not only were the receivers back to business, but for the first time all season, the Panthers boasted a legitimate running game, finally giving themselves a complete offensive arsenal. The game…

Parkdale Falls to 3-2 with Loss to Oxon Hill

The Panthers lost to the Clippers 17-14 on Saturday.

The Parkdale Panthers ran a desperate trick play in the waning seconds of their home matchup with Oxon Hill on Saturday. Quarterback Bejoe Mundit gave the ball up to Andrew Green on the left side. Still behind the line of scrimmage, Green slung the ball down field in the direction of Adrien Staughn. The pass, which if completed would have put Parkdale deep in Clipper territory, slipped through Straughn's fingers and fell into the waiting hands of Oxon Hill's Levard Peacock, effectively ending the game. The trick play, with its early promise and ultimate failure, was perfectly symbolic of Parkdale's performance all afternoon. There were certainly shining moments, but in the end, the Panthers' execution just wasn't there. They lost the game …

Parkdale Spoils Northwestern's Homecoming, Wins 33-21

The Panthers won their second straight game on Saturday.

On a day that certainly did not feel like the start of the fall season, as game-time temperatures hovered around 90 degrees, Parkdale (3-1) came into Northwestern, won the turnover battle, and eventually won the game, defeating the Wildcats 33-21. The loss left Northwestern (0-4) still winless on the season. Junior running back BJ Yates got things rolling on the opening kickoff, returning the ball the length of the field for a Panthers touchdown.  After a successful two-point conversion, the score was quickly 8-0 in favor of Parkdale. "All week long [we said] 'Don't kick it to number 5.' That's what we wanted to do, but the first one, we kicked it straight to him," said Wildcats Coach Bryan Pierre. Moments after the initial score, Parkdale…
