University Park Election Results: All Four Council Members Re-Elected

One councilman won with eight votes.

The town of University Park held its election Tuesday for four council seats in wards 2, 4, 5 and 6. According to a town alert the election results were as follows: All the races were uncontested.

The town of University Park is holding their town council election today. Four council members are up for re-election and running for office uncontested. Early Voters Storm Back into Voting Booths Following Hurricane Sandy

More than 43,000 have voted early already in Montgomery and Prince George’s Counties.

  Due to the dangers of Hurricane Sandy, early voting locations were closed Monday and Tuesday -- but Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley has now extended the early voting period through Friday for the entire state. During the two days that early voting locations were open, prior to Hurricane Sandy's arrival, 43,629 voters took advantage in Montgomery and Prince George’s Counties. Montgomery County According to data from the Maryland State Board of Elections 23,509 of the 616,016 eligible people voted early on October 27 and 28. Of those voters, 16,183 were registered Democrats, 2,821 Republican, 3,753 unaffiliated and the rest split between the Green, Libertarian and “Other” parties. Tabori Reelected Mayor, Alvarez Takes 7th Ward Seat

David Brosch and Arlene Christiansen also won terms on the University Park Town Council Tuesday.

University Park Mayor John Tabori was handily elected to a fourth term Tuesday alongside three town council members—two of them fresh faces in town government. Tabori, who ran unopposed, received 187 votes out of 241 cast. Another 31 residents voted for "none of the above," and 23 ballots were deemed invalid.  The mayor said that tally was higher than what he recalled earning in his past three elections. "I very much appreciate the voters' support. … The mayors who serve here in University Park are in effect town managers also. It's not an easy job, so it's gratifying when people support you," Tabori said. University Park Residents to Vote Tuesday for Mayor, Council Members

Balloting runs from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Riverdale Presbyterian Church.

It's election day in University Park, with voters set to cast their ballots for the office of mayor and three of the town's seven council seats. Running unopposed for a fourth term in the town's top post is Mayor John Tabori. In December, the council raised the maximum period of office for the mayor from three two-year terms to four. Given that he faces no competition, Tabori said he feels "pretty good" about his prospects on Tuesday. "I'm pleased that the community has been as supportive of me as they have and of the efforts I've made," Tabori said. Ward 5 Residents to Vote Tuesday in Special Council Election

Attorney and Beechwood Road resident Heidi Sorensen is running unopposed for the seat.

Voters in University Park's fifth ward will cast their ballots Tuesday in a special election for an open town council seat. Attorney and Beechwood Road resident Heidi Sorensen is running unopposed for the post, which was vacated in January when former Councilwoman Tracey Toscano stepped down to lease a residence elsewhere in town.  Ward 5 covers the northeast corner of University Park. To get on the ballot, candidates for the seat were required to turn in a petition bearing the signatures of at least ten qualified voters. Only Sorensen submitted paperwork to Town Hall by the March 5 deadline. Registered Ward 5 voters can cast their ballots at Riverdale Presbyterian Church (6513 Queens Chapel Rd.) from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. today.

Election: University Park Special Election

Only one person is running for the vacancy in University Park's council.

According to the town of University Park, only one resident filed to run for the vacancy on University Park's council. David Brosch, the president of University Park Community Solar, LLC, credited for the solar panels on the roof of the University Park Church of the Brethren, is running for the ward 1 council seat left vacant by former councilwoman Margaret Mallino. Brosch is running uncontested in the town's special election, which will be held on Oct. 25.

Election: University Park Ward 1 Candidates Must File By Wednesday

Residents interested in filing as a candidate to fill the town's Ward 1 council seat need to file by Oct. 12.

University Park living in Ward 1 who might want to represent their ward on the town's council have until Oct. 12 to file as a candidate. The seat is vacant after former Councilwoman Margaret Mallino resigned from her position and decided to move with her husband to Missoula, MT. The special election is set for Oct. 25. Ward 1 residents who are registered to vote in town can run for the seat. Editor's Note: We corrected the story. A previous version had the wrong destination for Former Councilwoman Margaret Mallino.
