EXCEL Academy Principal Looks to Build Community Relationships
Diane Kanu is looking to create a feeling of family for her school and with the neighboring community.
Diane Kanu is excited to start her year as EXCEL Academy's newest principal. The charter school, which opened only six years ago in the former building of the St. Bernard's Catholic school, has had four principals. "I know that leadership turnover is a concern for parents," Kanu said, "but I want them to know I'm here for the long haul." She said great schools need stability and they look more like family. "A school should be reflective of its community," Kanu added, which is why she hopes to create relationships with the community, neighboring businesses and St. Bernard's Church, so her students can benefit from a foundation of support.
