Memorial Day Weekend Weather in Prince George's County

Here's a look at the weekend forecast courtesy of the National Weather Service.

Memorial Day Weekend is going to be clear and sunny, according to the National Weather Service. But you may want to keep a sweater handy.  After a cloudy, wet Friday the sun will return Saturday. Expect temperatures in the mid-60s, and breezy wins, gusting as fast as 21 mph at times. Saturday night, temperatures drop to the mid-40s and winds will calm a bit. More sun Sunday when temperatures are expected to rise to the high-60s during the day, dropping to the high-40s at night.  Memorial Day looks good from here, with temperatures in the mid-70s and clear, sunny skies. Temperatures will drop to the mid-50s at night.

Fewer Marylanders Expected to Travel During 2013 Memorial Day Weekend

AAA: Despite lower gas prices, sequestration is affecting family travel budgets.

Fewer Maryland motorists are expected to travel this year, but Memorial Day weekend 2013 will still be one of the busiest of the past 12 years, according to AAA Mid-Atlantic. “It appears changing current economic conditions as a result of sequestration, which has impacted the wallets of many, may be influencing some residents’ uneasiness to travel this Memorial Day holiday,” said Ragina C. Averella, manager of public and government affairs for AAA Mid-Atlantic. More than 718,000 Marylanders are expected to travel 50 miles or more from home this weekend—down 1.2 percent from Memorial Day weekend 2012. AAA estimates 91 percent of those traveling will go by motor vehicle, with the average roundtrip totaling 737 miles—up from 570 miles last …

Visitor's Visa Denied for Mom of Parkdale High Senior

The mother of Divesh Riza, a refugee from Nepal, was denied a visa to attend his graduation next week.

High school graduations are traditionally a time for family celebration, but for one soon-to-be Parkdale grad, there will be one important person missing from the festivities at the Comcast Center on Friday. Tara Sangroula, the mother of Parkdale High School senior Divesh Riza, was denied a visitor's visa to come to the United States from Nepal to watch her son graduate, Fox 5 reports.  Riza is a recipient of the  Gates Millennium Scholarship, which will fully pay his college tuition, according to Fox 5. He is United States legally with is father and sister as refugees, and said he thinks they reason his mother's visa was denied is that the government fears she will not return to Nepal following the graduation. Prince George's Woos Retailers at Vegas Convention

For the first time, the county hosted its own reception at the Global Retail Real Estate Convention.

From Freakanomics to Zuckerbergs, Prince George's County officials rubbed elbows with bigwigs in the retail real estate, business and marketing industries at the Global Retail Real Estate Convention in Las Vegas. For the first time, Prince George’s boosters hosted a nighttime reception for developers and retailers, according to BizJournals.com. And, according to a county spokesperson, things went well. “We had a very successful event,” David Iannucci told BizJournals. Iannucci, the assistant deputy chief administrative officer for County Executive Rushern Baker, wouldn’t identify any specific prospects but he reportedly said the county had set up more than a dozen official meetings with developers and retailers.
