According to Chief Michael Wynnyck, the University Park Police Department works closely with the Hyattsville Police Department and the Prince George's County Police Department. Although Wynnyck says that the area is relatively safe and there are neighborhood watches in effect, the town's close proximity to highways leads to occasional crime.
