Keep the ice scraper handy and the snow shovel too; the Baltimore-Washington corridor is under a winter storm watch starting on Wednesday.

Up to five inches of snow may fall during during the watch period, which is 7 p.m. Wednesday to 10 p.m. Thursday, according to the National Weather Service.

A winter storm watch means there is potential for significant accumulations of snow and sleet that may impact travel.

The weather service said that snow will move in from the south Wednesday evening, mixing with sleet and rain overnight into Thursday.

"Travel may be dangerous Wednesday night and Thursday," according to the weather service, which reported that the "heavy, wet snow" may cause power outages.

Temperatures will stay below freezing until Thursday.

The winter storm watch applies to Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Calvert, Carroll, Charles, Harford, Howard, Montgomery, Prince George's and St. Mary's counties.

Snow in the forecast and the TV weather gal said she was expecting 8 inches tonight. I thought to myself, 'fat chance', with a face like that!
