Q&A: Parkdale's Adrien Straughn

Patch talked to Parkdale's starting point guard about their season.

As a three-year starter at point guard for the Parkdale basketball team, Adrien Straughn has seen the Panthers suffer through plenty of losses. That was until this season, however, as the Panthers have put together 12 wins heading into next week’s playoffs.

Patch:  You’ve had more success this year than in seasons past. Is the vibe around the team different?

Straughn: I mean, yeah. We’ve had a pretty good season so far, and we want to take our success in the regular season and just take that into the playoffs.

Patch: What’s been the biggest difference this year?

Straughn: I think it’s that we work together as a team more this year. Our chemistry is a lot better than past years.

Patch: Is that especially important given the team’s lack of depth?

Straughn: Definitely. Since we don’t have a lot of players, we have to know that everybody has a role and play their role to be successful.

Patch: The season’s not over, but what would you call the highlight?

Straughn: Beating Roosevelt on Senior Night, that was probably the biggest moment in my career — and my fellow seniors’. Roosevelt’s a team that we never beat in anything, and to get a win on Senior Night — in our last home game — was pretty special.
