Whiz Kids: University Park Elementary Takes Win in Science Bowl

The students on the team took first place Tuesday.

This week we wanted to highlight the Science Bowl team from University Park Elementary that took first place in a county-wide competition last month.

The Gazette was there to cover the actual competition and spoke with some of the kids in February.

This year the team was made up of three 11-year-old sixth graders: Owen Roy of University Park, Olivia Martin of University Park, and Nelson Lotz of College Park.

This is the 25th year for the annual televised bowl that includes children from Prince George's County public middle and elementary schools.

University Park beat out teams from Greenbelt Elementary and from Rosaryville Elementary in Upper Marlboro Tuesday and will compete with Temple Hills' Avalon Elementary in April in the semifinals.
