Riverdale Elementary Raises Awareness for Breast Cancer

Students will begin a week of observance Monday, Oct. 17.

PTO Volunteer Coorrdinator Christina Burton said students at will spend next week in observance of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Burton, a breast cancer survivor for 11 years, was diagnosed when she was 30.

The students observance will help get information out about and more to the Riverdale community as well as some awareness about better access to healthcase for low-income women and men, she said in an e-mail.

On Thursday, the students will celebrate with school-wide wear pink day and a penny drive. The proceeds will be donated to Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

Last year, Burton said, the school raised $1,600. Community members can contribute by sending money directly to the school.
