What's Closing Down for the Holidays?

A rundown of schedule changes for local bus, rail, and government services.

With the holidays upon us, many government facilities and transit networks are operating on modified schedules. Below, we break down some of the local closings and changes over the next two weeks. (If you notice any omissions, email johnd@patch.com.)

Town Government

  • Riverdale Park Town Hall and University Park Town Hall will both be closed on Monday, Dec. 26 and Monday, Jan. 2. 
  • There will be no yard waste collection in University Park on either date.
  • However, there will be normal trash collection in Riverdale Park on both days.

County Government Offices

  • Offices are closed on Monday, Dec. 26 and Monday, Jan. 2.

County Schools

  • All Prince George’s County Public Schools, offices, and centers will be closed from Thursday, Dec. 22 to Monday, Jan. 2. Facilities will reopen on Tuesday, Jan. 3.

County Department of Environmental Resources

  • Operation will be suspended on Monday, Dec. 26 for the following facilities: Brown Station Road Sanitary Landfill, Brown Station Road Public Convenience Center, Electronics Recycling Acceptance Site, Household Hazard Waste Acceptance Site, Missouri Avenue Solid Waste Acceptance and Recycling Center, and Prince George’s County Yard Waste Composting Facility. Contact the Waste Management Division with questions at 301-952-7630.

County Bus

  • TheBus will operate the following routes on Monday, Dec. 26 and Monday, Jan. 2: Routes 11, 12, 13, 14, 15 Express, 16, 17, 18, 20, 21, 21 Express, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 30, 32, 33, 34, 35 and 53. 
  • TheBus routes 51, 51 Extended and 52, will not be in service on those days, but will return to normal operations on Tuesday, Dec. 27 and Tuesday, Jan. 3.

Metro Rail and Bus

  • Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority will operate extra afternoon trains on Friday, Dec. 23, and Friday, Dec. 30, for customers leaving work early for the holiday weekends.
  • Metrorail and Metrobus service will operate on regular weekend schedules on Saturday, Dec. 24; Sunday, Dec. 25; Saturday, Dec. 31; and Sunday, Jan. 1. (Metrorail will remain open until 3 a.m. on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve.)
  • On Monday, Dec. 26 and Monday, Jan. 2, Metrorail will operate between 7 a.m. and midnight, and Metrobus service will operate on a Sunday schedule. No track work is scheduled on either weekend.
