Video: O'Malley Blasts Legislators Over Budget

Governor Martin O'Malley strongly criticized state legislators early Tuesday morning after the Maryland General Assembly ended its session at midnight without taking action on proposed revenue measures.

The deadlock means that a so-called "doomsday" budget including $512 million in cuts will go into effect July 1 unless changes are made in a special session.

"The future is not a gift. It's an achievement. And on two important scores, the General Assembly failed to protect the important priorities that allow us to achieve a better future for our kids," O'Malley charged during a late night press conference.

"This is not the sort of operating budget that this administration proposed after 8 months of careful consideration, after $800 million in cuts," he added. "I think the people of our state have reason to expect more of their elected officials, especially when it comes to coming together around the priorities of the people."
