University Park Town Council To Update on Belcrest Plaza

After a month-long hiatus this summer, the council will meet at 7:30 p.m.

The biggest topic on tonight's University Park town council agenda will be an update on the Belcrest Plaza project.

The development, which would be built in Hyattsville where Toledo Terrace is currently located and behind the Mall at Prince Georges, would be used for mixed-used living. The plaza would consist of apartments, townhomes and businesses.

The development will be in Hyattsville; but because of its proximity to University Park, The Landy developers need to get clearance from University Park for storm water management issues and because of the impact the development would have on the intersections at Adelphi Road, Queens Chapel Road and East-West Highway.

Other items on the agenda are related to residents who want to build structures on their properties, such as a garage or shed.

The town hall meeting will begin at 7:30 p.m. at University Park Elementary School following the last meeting in a series of public safety forums the University Park Police Department has been hosting over the summer. The forum will begin at 6:30 p.m.
