University Park Sets Date for Special Election in Ward 1

After Margaret Mallino moved out of town, it left a vacancy on council.

If you live in University Park's Ward 1 and you want to become a part of the town's decisioning body, now's your chance.

Former Councilwoman from her seat on council after she and her husband decided to moved out to Missoula, MT.

So now there's a vacancy and it's the perfect time for someone willing to help make some big decisions for town get on board.

Decisions like how the town might handle the issues with traffic, stormwater management and more if the proposed is approved. Or whether or not future University Park mayors and council would get paid. Or helping find ways to make the town greener, through green street projects, and more. Or even help build a new town hall.

Candidates should be registered to vote not only in county, state and national elections, but town elections, too. They must also fill out a financial disclosure statement. Ward 1 candidates for council have 30 days (from Monday) to get 10 qualified voters to sign a petition in favor of them.

Finally, after town staff officially deem candidates qualified to run, electioneering may begin.

The special election will be held on Oct. 25, 2011 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Riverdale Presbyterian Church.
