He reminded residents to contact town hall through e-mail if needed for non emergencies and provided the following safety tips post-Hurricane Irene:

  1. Inspect your trees to make sure that they do not contain broken limbs that are likely to come down soon.
  2. Inspect your electric circuit breaker box.  Be sure that none of the circuit breakers are tripped or burned out.
  3. Visually check your plugs, particularly if the line between the utility pole and your house was damaged during the storm.  This can send a surge through your system and burn out plugs.  In most cases, such damage will be noted by a black burn mark around the plug.  If you note a problem, have an electrician review the problem. Unless you are quite knowledgeable, do it yourself electrical repairs are ill advised.
  4. Finally, if the wire lead between your home and the utility system was snapped or pulled down by a falling tree, or for any other reason, have a qualified electrician inspect the lines leading into your junction box to make sure everything is ship-shape.

Tabori added, "since electricians are not cheap, it is worthwhile to check out their credentials, especially noting whether they are licensed, insured and bonded."
