University Park Mayor John Tabori was handily elected to a fourth term Tuesday alongside three town council members—two of them fresh faces in town government.
Tabori, who ran unopposed, received 187 votes out of 241 cast. Another 31 residents voted for "none of the above," and 23 ballots were deemed invalid.
The mayor said that tally was higher than what he recalled earning in his past three elections.
"I very much appreciate the voters' support. … The mayors who serve here in University Park are in effect town managers also. It's not an easy job, so it's gratifying when people support you," Tabori said.
In Tuesday's sole competitive race, Van Buren Street resident Roy Alvarez defeated 40th Avenue resident Susan Dorn for the Ward 7 council seat, 43 votes to 32. Both were running as write-in candidates.
Tabori said he believed that race—focusing in large part on the proposed Cafritz development—was partly responsible for Tuesday's turnout, which he called "pretty high" by municipal election standards. University Park has slightly over 1,700 registered voters.
In Ward 1, Council Member David Brosch was reelected with 51 write-in votes. Two ballots were also cast for "none of the above."
And in Ward 3, Arlene Christiansen was elected to the council with 32 votes. Four ballots were also cast for "none of the above."
Tabori said that he and the newly-elected council members would be sworn into office at the last meeting in June.Office Candidate Votes for Candidate Votes for None of the Above Invalid Ballots Total Ballots Mayor John Rogard Tabori 187 31 23 241 Council member, Ward 1 David C.
