Rushern Baker IV to Campaign in Greenbelt on Labor Day

Although the younger Baker hasn't yet officially announced his intent to run for office, he'll be meeting and greeting potential constituents on Monday.

Rushern Baker IV, a local artist and son of Prince George’s County Executive Rushern Baker III, has not yet announced his official candidacy for the Maryland House of Delegates. 

But he has decided to kick off his campaign over the Labor Day weekend.

Baker, who said in a statement that he will officially announce his candidacy for the Maryland House of Delegates, District 22, will march in the Greenbelt Parade on Labor Day, Mon., September 2.

“I want the residents of Greenbelt to know that I love their city just as much as they do, and I see a lot of opportunities for growth here,” he wrote in a statement.

"Greenbelt’s history, sense of pride and community involvement make it unique," he said, "And I will work hard in Annapolis to make sure they have someone representing their interests.”

The parade is scheduled to run from 10 a.m. – noon on Monday, along Crescent Road, from Green Hill Road to Centerway.

Baker, who works as an artist for the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission and the University of Maryland, was in the news earlier this summer when the Washington Post reported on his traffic citations.
