Public Hearing Thursday Regarding Pepco Service

Prince George's County residents will have the opportunity to voice frustrations about their electric service Thursday when The Maryland Public Service Commission will hold a public hearing about Pepco.

The commission started an investigation after a series of summer storms left thousands of local residents without power for days at a time.  

According to a statement released by the commission, the hearing is being held in order to hear public comments on the reliability and quality of Pepco's service.

The commission also stated it was holding hearings "because of the frequency, number and duration of the power outages experienced by customers in the Pepco service area and the apparent breakdown of adequate communication between the company and its customers during these outage events."

The meeting will be held in the Hallam Theatre at Prince George's Community College at 301 Largo Road at 6 p.m.

Although the meeting is open to anyone, the commission is asking for people to bring photo identification and to sign-up to speak when they arrive.  Speakers will be given five minutes to comment.

Another similar hearing will be held Monday night in Montgomery County.

Customers who are unable to get to the hearing can submit written testimony, but it will only be accepted by mail or hand-delivery. All written comments can be submitted by Sept. 2 to: Terry J.
