College Park Gunpoint Robberies Linked

Prince George's County Police are looking into two armed robberies and an attempted armed robbery in College Park Wednesday. The incidents were related, police said.

BARC to Remove Radioactive Waste From Beltsville Grounds

The Beltsville Agriculture Research Center is preparing to dig up radioactive waste buried on its grounds since the late 1940s, according to Kim Kaplan, spokesperson for the Agricultural Research Service, of which the Beltsville center is a part. The materials are headed to a licensed landfill in Utah after that, Kaplan said.

Laurel Walmart Workers Join National Strike

Eleven workers from Laurel's Walmart Supercenter joined a walkout effort Tuesday that's spread to stores in at least a dozen states, according to union officials.

City of Bowie May Acquire Bowie Racetrack

Though the property is not yet for sale, the City of Bowie—with help from the state of Maryland and Prince George’s County—may acquire the property known as the Bowie Racetrack, if it becomes available, and turn it into a public green space. 

International Film Festival Opens in Prince George’s

Films from Australia, Iran, South Africa, the United Kingdom and Canada, as well as from across the United States will be shown at the Eighth Annual Utopia Film Festival. It opens Saturday at 11 a.m. and runs from Oct. 13-21.
