PG Resident Wins Housing Lottery

The new home will be in Lanham.

Derek Slocum and his wife may not have won the Powerball lottery, but did get pretty lucky recently.

Slocum heard his name called by Prince George’s County Executive Rushern L. Baker and was named the winner of the Department of Housing and Community Development’s House Lottery.

Baker will present the house to Slocum and his family Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. at the new Lanham home.

Earlier this year, DHCD held a house lottery during the 2012 housing fair where pre-qualified applicants entered into a lottery drawing to purchase a home in Prince George’s County for a substantially reduced price. In addition, DHCD provided a 5% down payment and closing costs for the home.

The house has 2,000 square feet with four bedrooms, two baths, living room, dining room and family room. Its exterior includes a rear porch, walk-out basement with paved patio, fencing, landscaping and off-street parking.
