Pepco Starts UP Tree Pruning Next Week

Pepco will begin pruning public and private trees in University Park after Monday, March 18, according to an announcement in the town newsletter.

Pepco has been issued a permit to remove up to 30 trees. Additionally, a second permit will likely soon be issued to prune town trees within the vicinity of Pepco power lines. 

The announcement listed the following tips for residents to keep track of the pruning and tree removal operations as they are conducted throughout town:

As the Pepco and Town arborists move through Town, they will notify all property owners of any need to prune their trees.

• Property owners whose trees will be trimmed should have a Pepco notice placed on their door. Keep an eye out for this and read it carefully. Pepco is required to meet national arbori- cultural standards, but pruning could be dramatic. Be sure that you understand what will be done and give informed consent.
• The Town will post general information on the streets and addresses affected on the Town website, at Town Hall and the University Park listserv. We will make a hard copy available for anyone who wishes to pick it up. Contact Town Clerk Tracey Toscano at Town- Hall@upmd.org or 301-927-4262 as she will maintain the lists.
