Meeting Roundup: University Park Discusses Rentals, Budget

  • Council voted to approve the installation of a 20 X 23 foot pad, plus replacement of a 5 X 64 foot driveway, including 4 inch sub-base and 4 inches of asphalt topping at 4001 Beechwood Road.
  • Mayor John Tabori said Prince George’s Co. Hazmat had still not gotten back to the town about the green dye as of April 11.
  • Tabori asked council to allow the town to recognize the Northwestern High School band for the time they spent at the Azalea Classic.
  • Police Chief Michael Wynnyk said the CERT team has been using the radios to help keep an eye out in town.
  • Wynnyk said the department received a grant for a license plate reader.
  • Code Officer Paula Martino discussed the housing/rental program – we are not seeing a lot of our properties bought up by investors to be rented out.
  • The town stays on top of the rental properties owners, Martino said, even for those owners that don’t live in the area.
  • People are leaving their houses with everything inside when foreclosing she said, , so the banks will gut the property and leave trash outside in the yard, which has created problems for neighbors.
  • Any issue regarding rentals should be told to Martino.
  • CDC Walk/Run on May 5 from noon to 1:15 p.m.  approved
  • Tabori introduced the budget and there will be more budget meetings in the future including on May 23.
  • Budget won’t be voted on until May 23.
