Meeting Roundup: Riverdale Park's Council Picks Planning Consultant for Cafritz

Ward 1 Councilman Jonathan Ebbeler asked that council approve the appointment of Paul Mortensen, as the town's planning consultant.

As an independent planner, who works for himself, Mortensen's rates are much lower than his competition at $75 per hour versus $200 or more dollars per hour, but he has the qualifications the town is looking for in a consultant.

"He has a significant background in planning," Ebbeler said, "and we'll get more bang for the buck."

Mortensen has previously worked for some well-known planners, but is now branching out on his own, according to council. He has worked on other projects in Prince George's County— like the Bowie MARC Station— and understands the town's want for conectivity.

Mortensen comes highly recommended, according to Ebbeler, including from Mike Arnold, a University Park resident who sits on Riverdale Park's MUTC board.

Mayor Vernon Archer said it is not a permanant contract and if the town is dissatisfied with the service, they can hire someone else.
