Meeting Roundup: Riverdale Park Council Discusses Rinaldi's Liquor License, M Square, Cafritz

The mayor and council met for their May worksession.

Riverdale Park's mayor and council, including the council elect, met Tuesday evening for their May worksession.

The agenda was long and included a number of topics which needed discussion prior to action.

  • is taking over the old credit union building on Queenbury Road and are in need of a curb cut, for delivery trucks. MUTC members have already seen this plan.
  • is hoping to add the they already have from the county liquor board. They are buying their new license from a Beltsville business that closed and are hoping to give their new license to a new Hyattsville-based business. Although they already have two officers as security on site, the town's staff would like to add an additional officer or a marked car. They are continuing their discussion and hope to have something together by the June 6 meeting.
  • brought along their detailed site plan to the meeting and discussed how new requirements for their development contradict the original covenants on that land. A town consultant recommended that the developers extend the sidewalks, add a crosswalk (across River Road) and transportation to the Riverdale MARC station through the .
  • Mayor Vernon Archer discussed the developments with the and asked that the town use some of its money to help get a vision together of what the town would like to see on that property. Archer is enthusiastic about Whole Foods coming and said he is pleased to hear that the Cafritz's have conducted a traffic study.
  • The council will present and vote on its FY 2012 budget at the June 6 meeting.
  • Staff has asked that there be no parking zones created on East and West Beale circles and 50th Avenue.
  • There are a number of applications of fences and driveways that will be discussed on June 6th as well.
