Meeting Roundup: Riverdale Park

Town's new sworn-in council approves new budget, and discusses stormwater efforts, budget, and Dumm's Corner Market.

Riverdale Park's mayor and council met Monday evening for their June legislative. After swearing in a new council, the council briefly tackled legislative actions and issued local updates.

  • The council presented a plaque of their gratitude to Susanne Dunn for serving 25 years of work for the town as a Dispatcher.
  • Sara Imhulse met with the mayor elect of Hyattsville and current mayor to discuss the Wells Run and Nine Ponds. The initial report showed that the Nine Ponds can be an effective system, and the council declared that it’s an essential step in the right direction.
  • Chip Reed, attorney for Cafritz property, will present more plans on the June 20 work session about its development, providing a general timeline for the project and details about how they’d like to move forward with it.
  • The town was recently granted $100,000 for facade improvements to Kenilworth Avenue, and the process for improvement is expected to take six weeks to complete.
  • Along with the grant, they were able to fund the dog park request in Ward 2. The dog park committee is currently working with residents on 51st and Tuckerman for residential concerns, and to promptly alleviate any issues.
  • The council approved an understanding with M-NCPPC regarding firing use. They’re the first municipality to approve it for use, and this will likely be the basis for other municipalities to follow up with their own agreements.
  • The curb cut for Dumm’s Corner Market was approved, to establish a loading zone for the new store. Both the architects on their team and the council see that this design will have the least impact to the town.
  • The FIY2012 budget has been approved.
  • The council approved a motion to get Pepco to install a streetlight at a transformer pole near Oglethorpe Avenue, after residents came to Councilman David Lingua (Ward 3) discussing their safety concerns.
  • Driveway requests were denied by the council for zoning in Ward 4.
