Meeting Roundup: Notes From Council, Update on Fire Chief, Elections in Riverdale Park

A look at the council's brief meeting in Riverdale Park Monday.

The agenda wasn't full of items Monday night following the election in Riverdale Park, however, the council still meet to learn the and to share thoughts on exiting council members.

  • Chief Election Judge Kay Marcos shared the election results after thanking her election judges and the staff for expediting the process and organizing the event.
  • Marcos said a total of 189 votes were cast this election.  This is the brief breakdown of the voting:

  • Steve Lamphier, President of the Riverdale Fire Department updated everyone on the condition of Chief Charles Ryan. Lamphier said Ryan was moved to the step-down unit of the burn center and can now have visitors on a regular basis because his chance of infection has gone down. "He continues to have a long road ahead of him," Lamphier said, "and will remain in the hospital for another 30 days or so." He said after that Ryan will have a lot of rehabilitation. Lamphier thanked the council and the community for their support and also the DCFD Burn Foundation.
  • Councilwoman Alice Ewen (Ward 1) thanked the council for working with her throughout her term and wished incoming Councilman Jonathan Ebbeler well in his new endeavour.
  • Several councilmembers thanked Ewen and Councilwoman Keelah Allen Smith for their time on council. They also thanks constituents for voting for them in the election.
  • Councilman Alan Thompson said budget season is in full swing — noting budget meetings will be held on May 11, May 17, May 19 and May 23 starting at 7:30 p.m. in town hall.
  • Councilman David Lingua (Ward 3) said CKAR would meet Tuesday night at 7 p.m. at the youth center on Sheridan Street.
