Meeting Round Up: University Park Town Council

Town Council met for its regular legislative session.

University Park's Mayor and Council met Monday evening at University Park Elementary School to discuss agenda items concerning the Belcrest/Landy Project, permits and grants.

  • Mayor and Council voted in favor of an installation of patio on Pineway, a parking waiver renewal on 40th avenue, a parking waiver on Forest Hill Drive, and an installation of a sidewalk on Oakridge Road.
  • The council also voted in favor of two street closures for this Sunday and Saturday, Sept. 25 for two neighborhood block parties.
  • Mayor John Tabori said he and Public Works Director Mickey Beall are working to make sure the sidewalk installation on Route 1 will be placed properly. They have contacted the State Highway Administration and Tabori said he hopes it will be fixed.
  • Police Chief Michael Wynnyk reported that there was an increase in crime in August especially thefts from cars. Councilman Len Carey is concerned that maybe the council need funding for crime sprees to get more officers on the street. Wynnyk is bringing in officers on overtime from 1 a.m. to 5 a.m.
  • The CDC/FEMA/FMS Annual Fall Walk/Run will be on Oct. 7 from noon to 1:15 p.m.
  • The town is apply for a Green Storm Water Management Design Grant for up to $35,000 from Chesapeake Bay Trust. It's a design grant to help town determine what the system would it look like, but then the town can apply for a construction grant through the trust.
