Meeting Round Up: Speed Hump Policy Approved, Cafritz Development Discussed

The mayor and town council met Monday night for a regular legislative meeting.

Riverdale Park’s mayor and town council met on Monday, Jan. 7 in a regular legislative session.

Below is a summary of developments and discussion points from the meeting.

    • By a 3-0 vote, the council approved the a resolution adopting a speed hump policy, which allows speed humps to be used as traffic calming devices on residential streets. Some minimum requirements to install a speed hump are the street has fewer than 2,500 vehicles per day, a peed limit of 25 m.p.h. or less and the public works director has investigated and rejected other less intrusive measures.
    • The council approved, 3-0, authorizing Town Administrator Sara Imhulse to send a letter to the District 22 delegation requesting an additional $500,000 in additional funding for the Youth and Community Wing project. A community meeting to discuss that project is set for Jan. 16 at 7:30 p.m. at town hall, with translators provided.
    • Council Member Alan Thompson introduced an ordinance to redistrict the town’s ward boundaries to align with the census. The council will review the boundaries at a meeting in February and Thompson said feedback on the proposed new boundaries is still welcome.
    • The council heard more discussion about the proposed Cafritz development and plans to discuss the project more at a special legislative session, tentatively scheduled Jan. 15.
    • Council Members Jonathan Ebbeler, Raymond Rivas and Alejandro Silva were absent from Monday’s meeting so the council postponed discussion on an amendment about the town’s debt limitation.
    • Public Works Director Leonard Addison reported that the town had collected 100 tons of leaves this season and the last day to put leaves out was Jan. 15. After that, leaves needed to be bagged to be collected.
