Baker Encourages Reading With Book Club

The county executive will kickoff his summer reading program Tuesday.

Prince George's County Executive Rushern Baker will kickoff his summer reading book club Tuesday at the Bowie Baysox game.

Baker, who began a Read Across Prince George's earlier this year, wants to encourage families to read together over the summer to bridge the educational gap between school years.

"As I have mentioned on many occasions, I had many reading challenges as a child; however, the more I read, the more confident and capable I became."  Baker said. “Educational studies also show that summer reading is pivotal to academic success, vocabulary building and helps prevent catch-up at the on-set of the school year due to loss of knowledge during the summer months.”
