Romney Wins Maryland GOP Primary

The Associated Press and other news outlets declared a winner shortly after the polls closed.

Former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney has won the Maryland Republican presidential primary, the Associated Press reports.

At 11 p.m., Romney led Rick Santorum 91,402 (48 percent) to 57,299 (30 percent) with 1,281 of 1,851 precincts reporting.

On the basis of exit polling, the AP and other major news organizations called the race for Romney shortly after the polls closed.

There are 37 delegates up for grabs in Maryland apportioned by congressional district. The winner of each district earns three delegates who are committed to that respective candidate. The balance goes to the candidate who wins the state.

President Barack Obama is running unopposed in Maryland for the Democratic nomination and had picked up nearly 91 percent of the vote at last count.
