Woman Cut During University Park Robbery

Police ask for public's help identifying, locating mugger who cut woman with knife.

A woman was robbed and cut with a knife during an incident in University Park on Thursday morning.

According to an alert sent out to town residents, Michael Wynnyk, Chief of Police for University Park, a woman was walking on the foot path near 44th Avenue towards her house in Riverdale Park  at about 11 a.m. when she was approached by a man who demanded she turn over her money. 

The woman handed over a brown wallet containing her credit cards. Then the suspect took out a folding pocket knife and cut the woman's right leg. The suspect left, heading in the direction of Queen's Chapel Road. The victim continued home and then called the police.

The woman described the suspect as a white male, about 30 years old, standing about 5'8". The man had a heavy build and was wearing a dark Carhartt-style jacket, blue jeans and a black knit cat. 

The woman was treated for a minor cut on her leg.

Police canvassed the area in search of the suspect, but turned up empty. Police are asking anyone with information about the crime to contact the University Park Police Department at 301-277-0051.
