Update: Two DC Firefighters Released From Hospital, Another and Riverdale Chief Remain Hospitalized

Riverdale Park residents to sign card and sign-up for blood drive at the Riverdale Park Farmers Market.

Two of the D.C. firefighters injured in a April 8 fire have been released from the hospital according to a Prince George's County Fire Department Acting Captain Christian Wargo.

In a press release by PGFD spokesman Mark Brady sent out Thursday morning, Wargo said Rescue 3's Mike Deavers was released from the Burn Center at Washington Hospital Center Sunday.

"He is doing well, still with dressings on his arms and follows up with the burn doctors in outpatient clinic next week," he stated.

Lt. Robert Alverado, of Truck 13, was also released Tuesday, although he has dressings on his arms and hands, according to Wargo.

After having surgery on his arms for skin grafs Tuesday, Ramon Hounshell, of Rescue 3, remains in the hospital's burn unit and will receive an update on his healing from doctors Thursday, he added.

Wargo said Rescue 3 firefighter Charles Ryan, who is Riverdale Fire Department's fire chief, remains in the burn unit on a ventilator.

According to RFD President Steve Lamphier, Ryan went through several hours of surgery Monday.

"He is expected to go through additional surgery on Friday. I understand that the surgeries are for skin grafts," Lamphier wrote. "Chuck is on the respirator, but he is being weaned off of it. And, he still cannot have any visitors."

Ryan has already been walking and even wrote out his need for a Pepsi, earlier this week, according to Lamphier's other updates.

Members of the Riverdale Fire Department greatly appreciate the Town of Riverdale Park's outreach, he added.

Concerned residents can sign a community card at Thursday's farmers market  in the Riverdale Town Center starting at 3 p.m. The card will card will remain at town hall through next Tuesday for residents to sign.

The town is also organizing a blood drive, according to Mayor Vernon Archer.

"On Wednesday [April 20], anyone interested in going to the burn center and donating blood please join me at town hall and we will caravan down together," Archer said. "We will depart from town hall at 12:30 p.m."
