Police Identify the Victim of the Fatal Crash on the Beltway

State Police have identified the man who died Thursday after a car veered into him as he was changing a tire on the side of the road.

Updated, July 8, 10:17 a.m.: State Police have identified the fatal accident victim as 28-year-old Eric Francis Corsino Avila, of Hyattsville.

At this time no other information has been released about the other victims, including two minors, nor their conditions.

Updated, July 7, 11:55 p.m: According to Maryland State Police, all four lanes of the beltway are now open after police partially closed traffic after a fatal accident.

Once the victim's family is notified, police will release the name of the man who died helping someone with their flat tire.

There are also no updates on the conditions of the two adults and two children who were taken to local hospitals after sustaining injuries.

Updated 8:17 p.m.: WTOP Traffic tweets that authorities have prepared to open one more lane of traffic, and one lane on the left of the outer loop of the Beltway remains closed.

Updated 7:38 p.m.: Maryland State Police reports that the individual struck by the third car died at about 7 p.m. after being taken to Holy Cross Hospital.

Two right lanes of traffic on the Beltway are open, but the two left lanes of traffic are still closed and will remain so for a considerable amount of time due to investigation, police said.

Names of individuals involved are unavailable.

Updated 7:15 p.m.: WTOP tweets that two right lanes on the outer loop of I-495 past I-95 northbound can now get by the accident site.

Updated 7:04 p.m.: One adult male is in extreme critical condition, and two children and two adults sustained non-life-threatening injuries, according to the Twitter account of Mark Brady, spokesman for the Prince George's Fire Department. Brady also reports that he is on the scene.

The two children and two adults with non-life-threatening injuries have been taken to trauma centers, Brady tweets.

Original Post, July 7, 6:30 p.m.: Maryland State Police have shut down the outer loop of the beltway between Route 1 and New Hampshire Avenue to investigate a three-car collision.

Two vehicles were stopped on the side of the beltway, changing a tire on one vehicle, when the driver of the third car veered into them, about 6 p.m., police said.

The person changing the tire is severely injured.

At this time police don't know details about the accident or the number of people injured and their condition, but said the beltway should reopen shortly. They couldn't, however, give an exact time.
