Riverdale Park Lieutenant Completes Prestigious Training Program

Andrew Powell graduated from the Northwestern University School of Police Staff and Command on Friday.

Chief David Morris and Capt. Patrick Timmons were in attendance Friday as Lt. Andrew Powell marked his graduation from the Northwestern University School of Police Staff and Command.

SPSC is a prestigious ten-week program that aims to prepare law enforcement managers for senior positions "by uniquely combining academic principles with practical applications."

"Because research is a key component of the SPSC, many times a student’s research project comes directly from a timely and critical issue facing that student’s agency," according to the department. "The knowledge gained can be put to use immediately."

Powell, a ten-year veteran of the RPPD, was able to attend the school's 327th session through grants from the State Highway Administration, the Maryland Chiefs of Police Association, and the Maryland Sheriffs Association.

"We are very proud of Lt. Powell’s accomplishment and look forward to his return to work," Timmons said.
