PGPD Officer Charged With DUI After Bladensburg Crash

Police said Daniel Gonzalez, 38, registered a .13 blood alcohol level.

A Prince George's County police officer has been charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after a weekend crash in Bladensburg involving his marked cruiser.

According to a statement from the PGPD, units responded to a single-car accident at the intersection of Route 1 and Tanglewood Drive around 5:15 a.m. Saturday.

No one was injured in the crash, but the responding officer suspected that driver of the vehicle—Officer First Class Daniel Gonzalez, 38—was intoxicated, the department said.

When subjected to a breathalyzer test, Gonzalez reportedly registered a .13 blood alcohol level. He was subsequently placed under arrest.

Police said Gonzalez was off-duty but was driving his departmental vehicle at the time of the accident. Gonzalez is a six-year veteran and patrol officer assigned to PGPD District I, which covers East Riverdale and much of the county's northwest corner.

The incident remains under investigation by the PGPD's Special Special Investigation Response Team. The State's Attorney's Office is also set to review the case.
