Multiple Unlocked Cars Burglarized in University Park

A subject was captured by a webcam entering one of the vehicles but could not be identified.

Multiple unlocked vehicles were burglarized in University Park during the early morning hours of Thursday, according to police.

An unidentified subject wearing dark clothing is believed to have entered three vehicles across town between the hours of midnight and 4:25 a.m.:

  • A 2012 Mazda in the 6500 block of 41st Avenue, from which some change and a Leatherman tool were reported stolen.
  • A 2008 Ford in the 4100 block of Tennyson Road, from which a Garmin GPS unit was reported stolen.
  • A 2003 Honda in the 6600 block of Wells Parkway, from which a power inverter and headphones were reported stolen.

The subject was captured by a webcam around 3:50 a.m. while entering the vehicle on Wells Parkway, according to , but no identification was possible due to the poor quality of the images. An investigation is ongoing.

"During this holiday time it is important not to leave valuables in your car," police advised in a statement. "Gifts for return and gifts you brought home from visiting relatives are prime targets for thieves. Take them in."

"Lock your vehicles. Be sure your visitors lock their vehicles.  Most trunks are easily opened from inside the vehicle. If you do place items in the trunk, take the extra step to disable/lock the interior trunk release latch. And report all suspicious persons, specifically at wee hours of the morning," the statement added.
