Seven Hurt, Including Four Children, as Driver Loses Control of Car

A car slammed into a kiddie pool at a home just east of Kenilworth Avenue in Riverdale Friday afternoon.

Prince George's County Fire and EMS are on the scene of an accident just east of Kenilworth Avenue in Riverdale that left six people injured, including four children.

According to PGFD spokesman Ron Bridges, a driver lost control of a vehicle shortly after 3:30 p.m. near a home at 57th Avenue and Jenifer Place.

Prince George's County Police said the driver of a Toyota 4-Runner tried to pass the driver of a Ford Escape, but struck the Ford instead and lost control of the vehicle.

Bridges said the car left the roadway and slammed into a kiddie pool where children were playing nearby. The care finally came to a stop after hitting a home, police said.

Seven people were injured, including four children ranging in age from 5 to 10, according to Bridges. The 30-year-old female driver and her juvenile passenger were also transported to Prince George's County Hospital, as well as the driver of the Ford. All the injuries were non-life threatening, according to police.

Police are investigating the accident and charges are pending.
