County's Fireworks Amnesty Program in Effect

Prince George's County residents can turn in fireworks without fear of being arrested and possibly fined through July 20.

It may be a tradition to watch fireworks on the Fourth of July, however, in Prince George's County, buying or shooting fireworks for personal use is illegal.

Although it's against the law, illegal fireworks stands or a quick trip across state lines can bring those sparklers and fireworks back into the county.

So, Prince George's County has set up an amnesty program, when residents can turn in fireworks they find without a fear of arrest or fines until July 20. According to a press release sent out by the county's fire department, each year the department responds to several calls for injuries related to fireworks.
