Co. Exec Baker Says Everything in "Good Order" in Prince George's County

The county executive spoke in Brentwood about how the county was affected by Tuesday's earthquake.

According to the Fairfax Times, Prince George's County Executive Rushern Baker said the county government would be open Wednesday and fully-operational even after an Tuesday.

Standing outside the Emergency Operations Center in Brentwood, Baker and deputy county fire chief Benjamin Barksdale spoke to a crowd of reporters.

Everything seems to be in good order,” Baker said, according to the Fairfax Times.

Four buildings on the 3200 block of Curtis Drive in Hillcrest Heights were evacuated due to concerns about structural damage, while a building at 3208 Curtis Drive has been condemned. Each building was the home to about 250 residents, Baker said at the conference.

Barksdale said shelters have been set up for the displaced residents.

“Throughout the incident we did not have any injuries, no one was transported and there were no working fires,” Barksdale said, according to the Fairfax Times.

According to the county's fire department the following damage was reported:

  • 37 schools with damage (damage still being investigated)
  • County Courthouse in Upper Marlboro with a noticeable crack in wall
  • County Administration Building (CAB) has been inspected and cleared
  • The Prince George’s County Regional Processing Center in Hyattsville has water damage.  All processing will take place this evening at Central Booking Center at Prince George’s County Correctional Center.

Update, 5:41 p.m.: The press conference has been moved until 6 p.m.
