Child Struck on Riverdale Road

A two-year-old boy was struck by a SUV while riding a scooter.

Update, 6 p.m.: A 2-year-old boy riding a Razor scooter was struck by a black SUV, while playing in a parking lot of an apartment complex off Riverdale Road.

The accident happen shortly before 5 p.m, according to Riverdale Firefighter/EMT Michael Naples, who was acting as the fire department's spokesman for this incident.

The accident occurred in the parking lot of the at 5409 Riverdale Road. According to Naples, the driver, who was coorperating with police, said he didn't see the child.

The boy was taken to The Nation's Children's Hospital in D.C. for what Naples said were serious injuries to the boy's right side, including his head, arms and a possible broken leg.

The child's mother was notified and went to the hospital with the child by ambulance.

The scene was cleared shortly before 5:30 p.m.

Riverdale Park Police Capt. Patrick Timmons said the boy rode out in front of the car, so the driver is not at fault.

Original Post, 5:19 p.m.: Riverdale Park Police are investigating an accident involving a car hitting a child on the 5400 block of Riverdale Road.
