My heart goes out to the child who was hit. However, based on my own experience, if the child was not crossing at corners, wearing dark clothing, was in the middle of the street, not using the crosswalk, I have at least as much sympathy, if not more, for the driver of the car. People, I see adults every day dragging their children across streets not 10 feet from a cross walk just because they don't want to wait an extra minute or so. I have been driving Ritchie Highway by the MVA and have seen people cross with no regard for their own safety or others. I have driven down our neighborhood streets after dark and had someone step out who I did not see. This is the example we show our children. We have no one else to blame but ourselves. I care about you but you have to care about you as well. It is NOT the responsibility of authorities to protect our children. It is as simple as teaching a child to hold an adult's hand when they cross a street at a crosswalk, how to be responsible for their own safety and not to dare cars to hit them, as is the case in some instances. TAKE RESPONSIBILITY, LISTEN, COMMUNICATE.
