Get Out: Five Things You Can Do Even With an Impending Hurricane

Update: The MLK Memorial Dedication has been postponed.

So we had an earthquake and now a hurricane is coming. So what?

OK. So it's kind of a big deal, but that doesn't mean you have to sit at home this weekend. 

Especially since the National Weather Service has said it now won't be in the area until Sunday.

So other than grabbing groceries — I still don't get why people buy bread, milk and eggs when a storm comes — you can head to a few events locally and even in D.C.

Maryland State Fair

When/Where: Begins Aug. 26 runs through Sept. 5 in Lutherville, MD.

Why Go: Head over a try some fair food, rides or even enjoy a concert.

Price: Adult admission $8, Senior admission (62 & over) $6, Children (6 to 11) $3, children 5 and under are admitted FREE (Rides are not included), plus money needed for tickets for rides.

Fenton Street Market Kids Fest Rock-n-Romp

Where/When: Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Fenton Street Market in Silver Spring.

Why Go: Take the little ones over for a fun day of festivities and enjoy the market yourself.

Where/When: Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at

Why Go: This exhibit celebrates and honors the men who created the first Army Aviation School 100 years ago.

Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Dedication

Where/When: Sunday, 11 a.m. at 1964 Independence Ave. SW

Why Go: Barring it's cancellation due to the hurricane, it's a historic moment, when the nation finally honors MLK, Jr. with a memorial alongside others who have changed our nation.
