Maryland Day to Offer Hundreds of Family-Friendly Activities, Exhibits

Elmo creator Kevin Clash, health and nutrition expert Joy Bauer will be among the crowd at this weekend's open house at the University of Maryland.

Where can you pretend to be a firefighter, news anchor and crime scene investigator all in one day? 

Do all this and more at the —the 's open house—this Saturday, April 28. Students and prospective students and their families, alumni and community members can participate in tours and observe exhibitions in six different topic areas: Ag Day Avenue, Arts Alley, Biz and Society Hill, Science and Tech Way, Sports and Rec Row and Terp Town Center.

Elmo creator Kevin Clash will be among the hundreds of demonstrators. Find him at the Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center. The UMd. dining services chef will feature healthy eating at the cooking stage on Hornbake Plaza. UMd. alum and nutrition expert Joy Bauer will jump in for one of the cooking sessions, too.

Want to break up the day with a little action on the field? Admission is free for the 1 p.m. lacrosse game, when UMd. hosts Bellarmine University at Capital One Field. Athletes and coaches from the men's and women's basketball teams will be available for autographs at the Comcast Center, and the football team and coach will offer autographs at Byrd Stadium.

Prospective students will also have the opportunity to learn about college financing options and all of the academic programs, and meet the deans.

Sounds like fun, but I'm broke!
Admission is free, and parking is free.

I have no car.
Shuttle service is free too. The bus will run from the College Park Metro to campus.

I have no time.
The event runs from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m., so you have six hours to squeeze in a visit.
