Recipe: Nutella Poptarts

Nutella Pop Tarts, for both the kid and the adult in you.

Pop tarts... Everyone loves them, right? Until a year ago, I couldn't get my 8 year old daughter to eat anything for breakfast BUT pop tarts. The entire world of breakfast foods and pop tarts were the only thing that would satisfy her hunger.

She's since branched out a bit. But a good old pop tart still hits the spot for her and for me. What can I say, I'm a kid in an adult's body. These homemade pop tarts are fun, easy and delicious. They can be completely customized to your liking. A fan of fancy jellies? Slather some inside. Going for the s'more effect? Melt some chocolate and layer on some Marshmallow fluff.

I went with Nutella. Because everyone also loves Nutella, right? The result was out of this world. I've had a pop tart for breakfast every day this week...

Nutella Pop tarts

  • 1 pie dough (can be homemade or store bought)
  • Nutella
  • Egg wash (water and 1 egg, whisked)
  • Sugar

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Lay a piece of parchment on top of a baking sheet and set aside.

Roll out your pie dough into a square. Slice it into even pieces. You’re going to fold one on top of the other, so make sure you cut out an even number. Slather a piece of the pie dough with Nutella, leaving about a quarter inch around the edges. You can use as much or as little Nutella as you’d like. Carefully place a slice of pie dough directly on top of the Nutella filled pie dough. Using a fork, press into the edges of the dough to seal. Repeat until you are out of dough.

Brush each pop tart with egg wash. Sprinkle some sugar on top. Lay your pop tarts on top of the baking sheet. Bake for 15 minutes until golden brown.

You are an extremely wicked person -- and I love it!! I am not going to be able to get this out of my head all day. By the way, my son is 18 and I just sent him off to high school with some warm pop tarts in his back pack. Brown sugar - his favorite.

I love that your son is 18 and still eating poptarts! That's how my daughter will be. You should definitely make him these poptarts! He'll seriously love them!!!
