Riverdale Park Residents Can Learn More About Home Energy Improvement Program

STEP Orientation, Saturday, Sept. 8, 11:30 to 1 PM, Riverdale Park Town Hall, 5008 Queensbury Road, Riverdale. Contractors will be present to discuss home energy improvements.

The Small Town Energy Program (STEP) is well underway in Riverdale Park, and the Town is holding an open community event for Riverdale Park residents to learn more about how this exciting new energy efficiency program can help them save money on their energy bills.

The event will be held on Saturday, Sept. 8 from 11:30 to 1 PM at Riverdale Park Town Hall, located at 5008 Queensbury Road in Riverdale. Contractors will be present at the Open House to speak with residents about making home energy improvements. Light refreshments will be served, and a drawing will be held for a chance to win $500 towards energy-efficiency home improvements.

Funded by the US Dept. of Energy, the goal of STEP is to make it easy and affordable for Riverdale Park residents to lower their energy bills through home energy efficiency improvements. STEP provides rebates that range from $400-$4,650 to help homeowners get the work done. In addition, low interest loans are available to qualified participants through an agreement with Sandy Spring Bank to help make the improvements.

One of the most innovative benefits of STEP is free support from Energy Coach Suzanne Parmet. Suzanne makes the energy evaluation and improvement process easy, working with homeowners to answer questions, guide them through every step of the program, and ensure that they receive every financial incentive.

STEP is currently running in Riverdale Park, College Heights Estates, Hyattsville and University Park. A number of Riverdale Park homeowners have already signed up for the innovative program since its launch in July. Interested residents are urged to learn more at www.smalltownenergy.org, or to contact Energy Coach Suzanne Parmet at 240-695-3991 or energycoach@smalltownenergy.org.

STEP is a three-year initiative to reduce energy usage by 20% in 20% of homes in participating communities, and is currently underway in College Heights Estates, Hyattsville, Riverdale Park and University Park. The program’s goal is to create a model community energy transformation program that serves as a roadmap for other small towns across the U.S. The program began in August 2010 and runs through July 2013.
